How a quote is built
Every quote has two parts. Only one of them is capped.
States set maximums for notarial acts: the acknowledgment, the jurat, the oath. Driving to the signer, printing a loan package, waiting for a late borrower and working at 9 p.m. are separate services. The calculator keeps them apart so you can see both numbers.
Notarial acts
The fee for the notarization itself. In most states it has a statutory maximum, counted per act, per signature, per signer or per document depending on the state. Texas, Pennsylvania and Nevada use a first-signature-plus-additional structure.

Travel, printing, scanbacks, waiting time, after-hours and a loan signing’s service fee. The notarial maximum does not cover them, but some states regulate or require disclosure of them, so separate is not the same as unrestricted.

Using the calculator
Where do the default fees come from?
Notarial-act fees default to the verified maximum for the state you pick, taken from that state’s official source. Everything else (the $40 flat travel fee, $0.15 per printed page, $125 signing fee and so on) is Mobile Notary Fee Calculator’s starting value, not a market average. Replace them with your own rates.
Does the calculator tell me whether a fee is legal?
No. It reports what the verified data supports: within the verified statutory limit, above it, no statutory maximum found, or not verified. Travel and service fees are never checked. What is permitted for your commission is a question for your commissioning authority.
Why does the hourly rate matter?
A $150 signing that takes three hours door to door pays less per hour than a $90 one that takes one. The estimate subtracts mileage, printing and other direct costs, then divides by appointment plus travel time. See how to calculate effective hourly rate.
Is my quote saved or sent anywhere?
